Coneflowers

$960

This vibrant mixed media artwork features five boldly rendered echinacea (coneflowers) with vivid magenta-pink petals and rich burnt-orange centers, rising gracefully on slender green stems against a richly layered background. The composition masterfully combines painting, collage, and mark-making, with visible fragments of vintage postage stamps, sheet music, vintage maps, and handwritten and printed text passages — including inspirational quotes — woven into the luminous yellow and teal-blue ground. Bold diagonal black and white stripes in the upper portion add geometric tension that contrasts beautifully with the organic softness of the flowers. The artist employs ink outlining to define the floral forms with graphic clarity, reminiscent of botanical illustration, while the painterly, gestural background layers acrylic washes in sunny yellows, sky blues, and sage greens. Stenciled numbers and typographic elements add urban energy and visual depth, suggesting a diary-like accumulation of memory and meaning. The overall effect is one of controlled spontaneity — every element feels deliberately placed yet refreshingly alive. The mood is joyful and contemplative simultaneously, evoking the feeling of pausing in a summer garden while the world rushes past. The embedded text — including references to boldness, dreams, and life's everyday miracles — transforms the floral subject into a meditation on mindfulness and wonder, giving this piece strong emotional resonance for gallery viewers.
